Anne E Stewart and Oisin McKenna. Swiss & Italian Festa. 4 November 2012

Folklore, Folktales and Friends of the Festa

Daylesford based storyteller and past president of the Swiss & Italian Festa (1995 – 2001), Anne E Stewart, will wind her way through twenty years of of Swiss & Italian Festa history. From friends and early committee members you'll hear anecdotes and conversations as they share their recollections of the beginning of the Festa and some of its highlights. Anne will tell of her involvement, including a visit by internationally renowned author / illustrator Tomie DePaola as well as recount some of Tomie's classic folktales.

Awarding winning Castlemaine based storyteller Oisin McKenna will also feature on the day and will perform Italo Calvino's Marcovaldo tales. The stories take place in a very poor industrial city in northern Italy in the early 1950s, the Italy of neo-realistic movies.

Calvino is surely among the handful of living writers that can be called, without hesitation, great…in the spinning of his simple, magical stories we are captured, delighted, informed, horrified, reprimanded and rewarded; we are afraid and we are given hope. Calvino’s only subject is the world and how we may live in it...” San Francisco Chronicle.
